New Features to the GCDC Product Line

The X-series line of data loggers underwent a number of firmware upgrades to integrate new features at the request of our customers. The code changes were phased in and field tested to ensure stability and compatibility. Now, these new features are fully tested and described in the product data sheets. New features include:

gcdcTool posted to Source Forge

"gcdcTool" is a software application that allows real time access to Gulf Coast Data Concepts data loggers via the USB. The real time interface provides access to the sensor, direct initialization of the real time clock, and firmware updates. The application was originally written for Linux and uses the libusb open source USB library. We have successfully ported the gcdcTool to Windows. In response to customer requests, we have openly posted the gcdcTool source code to Source Forge in an effort to help our users build custom applications.

New Price Structure

At GCDC, we work hard keeping our prices low and affordable to hobbyist, students, and scientists. However, even as we work to lower manufacturing costs other expenses continue to rise. Effective April 12, 2010 we are implementing a new price structure. The X6-1A remains at the entry level price of $89 but our other product prices adjust upwards to match current manufacturing costs.

The X6-1A Product Release

Another improvement of GCDC's incredibly affordable X6-1 Accelerometer line. The X6-1A USB Accelerometer offers high-quality, accurate data collection at a significantly lower price than our competitors.

New features on the X6-1A include:

The X6-1A is powered by a single AA battery, which provides several days of constant data recording. The unit weighs only 55 grams (2 oz) with battery. LED indicator lights show the system's status.

The X6-1A has a user-selectable features including a range of either +/-2g or +/-6g, a rate of 10, 20, 40, 80 or 160 Hertz, and a dead band setting that allows for more selective data collection. Data is accurately time-stamped using a Real Time Clock with power back-up.

Data is collected on a 1 GB removable microSD card in easily readable, comma separated text data files that can be viewed with any spreadsheet or analysis package. Data is accessible using either Windows or Linux with no special software required. Each X6-1A device comes XLR8R, a Java program that provides a quick and convenient graphical visualization of data.

The X6-1 Product Release

Out with the old and in with the new! The old USB Accelerometer has been updated into the new X6-1, which adds new features suggested by our customers. The X6-1 builds on the rugged "USB Accelerometer" product and adds user selectable sample rates of 16, 32, 64, and 128 Hz as well as extended data logging operation using an external 5v USB supply.
